Lacrosse gear cost?

John C asked:

I usually play football but this year in my freshman high school, I’m signing up for lacrosse. I was wondering what equipment do i need to play lacrosse and what are the price range? On ***** sporting goods, i see that a stick can go up to 250 dollars!! DO i really need a stick that cost that much!?!?!? A lot of these equipment are expensive more than football. SO do anyone know how much in total all of these gear are going to cost?

    Helmet will be around $100.
You can get a decent stick for around $100 (no need to buy the best since you’re just starting).
Gloves, shoulder pads and arm guards will total another $150 – $200.
Cleats will be the same you would use for football.

A good place to look is. It has a classifieds section of used gear. Craigslist should have stuff listed as well depending on where you live. I was able to buy a new in the box helmet on ebay for $80 that retailed for $150 so there are definitely deals out there. The best thing to do would be to ask the other guys who will be on your team what kind of equipment they like and start looking for deals. At lot of guys are also willing to sell their used equipment whenever they buy new stuff for themselves.

    Good luck and have fun.

Depends on the brand and quality of the gear. Helmets are usually $100 to around $300 dollars. Good shoulder pads are usually $40 to $150. Arm pads vary but can be bought for as low as $20. Gloves depend on how well you want to be protected, going as low as $40 to over a $100. You don’t need a $200 dollar stick, as some people say its your skills that make the player, not the stick( I don’t really believe that though). I recommend the brand Warrior. They have some really good gear.

Helmet- Warrior Venom or Cascade PRO 7
    Shoulder pads- Warrior Hitman
Arm pads- Warrior PC Elbow Guard 7.0
    Gloves- Warrior Superfly
Stick- Warrior Warpath is a good beginner stick but a more advanced stick is a Warrior Helix head on a titanium shaft but that might be pricey.
