Would you play semi-pro football?
Scott N asked:
So much football, so little time. Year round, I am either watching the NFL, AFL, NCAA, or even the NAFL, and this question concerns the NAFL, and other leagues of that level.

NAFL players are listed as semi-pro. This traditional-style football league pays players about $50 to $100 a game. Usually, the players must provide their own gear (but uni provided). But when these players hit the field, while a LONG way from NFL talent, they play just as fiercely, taking just as much punishment as if they were paid top dollar.
Would you be willing to subject yourself to that kind of competition for just $100 a game?

Possibly

I’m thinking your question is more
“would you play football for $100 per game?”
because your NAFL pay scale information is inaccurate.
Any player that plays 5 years of college football, has probably bought his own equipment more than once.
Unless he’s a scholarship recipient, most players DON’T get paid to play college football and they incur regular bills, work regular jobs, and go to school at the same time.
I certainly did.
So $100 to play a game sounds like fun to me.

I would as long as i have my insurance. I mean I always said that I would play football, not for the money, but for love of the game. If I had the chance to go play semi-pro ball, you bet i would.. You figure if you played high school football, think of how hard some of those boys hit…you’re not getting paid for that and yet you love it…well at least i did.
Kathryn
Absolutely, I’d play for free. This is the first time in like 13 years that I’m not getting ready for the season. I miss it.

Yes – there is one difference between the pro’s and semi’s (beside the money) – love of the game. Not saying the pro athletes don’t like playing football, but if you dropped their pay to 100 a game, it would be interesting to see how many would still play.
I play in a rugby league, where we don’t get paid at all (except beer after the game!) – so I can somewhat relate.
Carolyn
Certainly!
I would play for free just because I enjoy football.
